Profile

I have over 15 years of basic web development experience (HTML/JavaScript and, more recently, CSS and XHTML) and over 10 years of PHP/MySQL experience. These are the areas I specialize in now but nearly 30 years of programming experience in a variety of languages and various platforms gives me a good conceptual understanding that I have found very useful in problem solving. My background and experience enable me to "think outside the box" and approach problems from a variety of angles. This has, on many occasions, enabled me to find solutions where all my colleagues said there was none. I specialize in rapid development and prefer phased deployment of projects. I am looking for part-time work - 10 to 20 hours per week.

Web Developer/Programmer
CastoWare Programming & Consulting — 1995 - Present

I've done freelance work on quite a few projects over the years but these are some of the highlights.

Developed an award-winning (APPY Award, 1998) Visual BASIC application that automated the process of building web pages and greatly increased the productivity of the New Media Group of the Berry Company in Dayton, OH.

Developed a tool using XAMPP Lite (http://apachefriends.org) to run a PHP application from a USB thumb drive that helps service technicians analyze GPS data logs on tug boats to help them resolve problems in the navigation system.

Built all functionality for StupidPrison.com and LeasePaid.com (working with others who developed the graphics and designed most of the layout)

I also have over 10 years of video editing experience and have used this skill to edit and produce video content for the Sikal Tactical Member Site. This content - martial arts training video clips - is delivered through a Flash container (JW Player). I set up a Cron job to run a PHP/MySQL script that maintains the video and article content for this site. The script automatically pulls the next item from the queue to be released and archives content after three months. Since video consumes a lot of drive space I used the Amazon S3 Service to store these clips for both the queue and the archival.
